Trying to predict anything in this topsy-turvy Super League season is a risky business. So when seventh place Leeds Rhinos take on second place Wigan Warriors at Headingley, don’t take a Wigan win for granted.

After the disappointment of losing their World World Club Challenge crown, Leeds Rhinos will have to pick themselves up for the tough trip to Langtree Park. That 14-18 loss to Melbourne Storm came despite outstanding performances from Kallum Watkins and veteran prop Jamie Peacock, but the effort they put in would have been both physically and mentally draining.

The second round of Super League XVIII has thrown up the first big confrontation of the new season, with the Challenge Cup holders Warrington taking on last year’s league leaders Wigan at the DW Stadium.

Both had comfortable wins in the opening round, with the Warriors walloping Salford 42-0 and the Wolves beating Castleford 40-24 – but the intensity will increase by several notches when these two clash.

Kevin Sinfield: in a league of his own

A 32-year-old man from Oldham sits quietly in a hotel room in central London, a photographer moving stealthily around him to get the obligatory one last shot. He is keen to return north as soon as possible, to his adopted home of Leeds, but not a flicker of irritation emanates from him. Kevin Sinfield is here to represent the Super League, and it is something he does with patience, grace and no little positivity.

"Sharing a room with two older brothers, I grew up quickly. I watched 18-rated films long before I should have and knew about beautiful women before puberty, thanks to [older brother] Chris’ posters next to his bed. He convinced my mum that they were art, but they were really just pictures of fit girls with their tits out.”

Victor Anichebe's "goal that never was" against Newcastle on Monday has reopened the revolving door on the goal-line technology debate, so we thought we'd wade in with a few choice questions of our own from across the video referee world. You're welcome.

The Stobart Super League reaches its final round of the regular season this weekend, with the final placing for the majority of the clubs still up in the air. There are no such problems for Wigan Warriors, however; Shaun Wane’s men are certain to finish top of the table and will be presented with the League Leaders’ Shield before their game against St Helens at the DW Stadium tonight.
